Science,<\/strong> systematized knowledge derived from observation, study, and experimentation carried on in order to determine the nature or principles of what is being studied.

Authority to develop science found early in the Bible: Genesis 1:26-28<\/p>\n

Ancient Science<\/span>:\u00a0 \u201cChildren in whom was<\/em> no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had<\/em> ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.\u201d\u00a0 -Daniel 1:4<\/p>\n

Since at least 600 years before Christ, there has been an effort to learn and know science.\u00a0 What science and engineering would have been documented at this time?<\/p>\n

Modern Science<\/span>, the past 513 years, is characterized by a relatively rapid pace of developments in mathematics, physics, astronomy, biology, chemistry, and medicine, and coincides with the Protestant Reformation and the Renaissance.\u00a0 Science advanced at a rapid pace during this period due to invention of the printing press, mathematical discovery, and the scientific method.\u00a0 A few of the key mathematicians of the Modern Era were:\u00a0 Blaise Pascal, 1623 \u2013 1662; Isaac Newton, 1642 \u2013 1727; Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, 1646 \u2013 1716; Leonhard Euler, 1707 \u2013 1783; Joseph Fourier 1768 \u2013 1830; Carl Friedrich Gauss, 1777 \u2013 1855; Augustin-Louis Cauchy, 1789 \u2013 1857; Bernhard Riemann, 1826 – 1866<\/p>\n

The basic notation used in Calculus today was set by Leibniz of Germany.<\/p>\n

Gutenberg Bible was in Latin, 1450\u2019s.\u00a0 Luther translated the Bible into German.<\/p>\n

Martin Luther and the other reformers did their work in the bridge from the Middle Ages to the Modern Era.\u00a0 Luther\u2019s undergraduate education included math and science:\u00a0 http:\/\/www.luther.de\/en\/geburt.html<\/a><\/p>\n

Until the Lord returns, there will always be a debate between the secular point of view and a Biblical point of view on science:<\/p>\n

\u201cKnow ye that the LORD he is<\/em> God: it is<\/em> he that<\/em> hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are<\/em> his people, and the sheep of his pasture.\u201d\u00a0 \u2013 Psalm 100:3<\/p>\n

Many scientists were, and are, motivated by faith.\u00a0 (literary support of this has been brought to class for those who would like to read some of it), Matthew Maury, Michael Faraday, Johannes Kepler<\/p>\n

For young people, math and science require a disciplined approach:\u00a0 \u201cO Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and<\/em> vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:\u00a0 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be<\/em> with thee. Amen.\u201d\u00a0 – 1 Timothy 6: 20, 21<\/p>\n
